What's On in Okehampton

With the wide selection of pubs and the town’s museum offering events at various points in the year, there is plenty to do in Okehampton. The town is close to several National Trust properties, all of which hold events, activities and workshops at various points in the year, particularly during the school holidays.

Traditional Dartmoor events

Being on the edge of Dartmoor means that Okehampton benefits from the traditions of the moor. Dartmoor has a host of myths and legends and interesting events and activities that are related to life on the moor. From arts and crafts that relate back to the National Park’s historic communities and folk ceremonies like Morris Dancing you can really immerse yourself in moor life.

One interesting event that takes place annually is the town’s Edwardian evening, which is held in December, meanwhile in the summer there is the Okehampton Show. The show, which is hosted in August every year is a traditional agricultural show where you can see prize winning animals, try some delicious food and drink and there is a programme of family friendly entertainment.

Other fun festivals include the Okehampton Food and Music Festival which celebrates the local food and drink offerings from Okehampton and across Dartmoor. The festival had to be postponed over the pandemic but is hoped to return soon.
