Visit the Jurassic Coast

The dramatic cliffs of the Jurassic Coast creates the backdrop to many of the towns and villages in this area of Devon, which is part of what makes it a wonderful place to visit and stay.

Best places to visit on the Jurassic Coast in Devon

  • Exmouth
As one of the oldest seaside towns in Devon and with two miles of sandy beach, Exmouth is known as the gateway to the Jurassic Coast
  • Sandy Bay
Just outside of Exmouth is Sandy Bay, where you'll find a picturesque beach and excellent opportunities for birdwatching and enjoying the cliffside walks.
  • Budleigh Salterton
Sitting within the East Devon Natural Landscape (previously AONB), here you can enjoy the best of both worlds with the Jurassic Coast and plenty of fossil hunting opportunities and wildlife, with the Otter Estuary Nature Reserve easily accessible from the beach. You'll also find a beaver colony here.
  • Ladram Bay
Hidden between Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth, here you can enjoy the impressive sea stacks and the red cliffs
  • Sidmouth
The coastline at Sidmouth is where you'll see the best of the red cliffs, which actually date back to the Triassic period.
  • Branscombe & Beer
Said to be the longest village in the country, Branscome and its neighbour, Beer are perfect for walks. Beer is a beautiful fishing village, with white cliffs, which are much younger than the red ones you can see in Sidmouth.
