What's On in Plymouth

If you’re a fan of all things nautical then Plymouth is the place to visit. Not only will you find plenty of history and heritage, but there are also a host of maritime events for you to get involved with alongside sightseeing and learning about the past.

Plymouth Pirate Weekend

Taking place in the summer months along the sea front, Plymouth's Pirate Weekend is a swashbuckling few days of fun and entertainment, inspired by the city's maritime history and the connection with privateers like Sir Francis Drake and Sir Walter Raliegh.

Head to the Barbican, Sutton Harbour, Royal William Yard and Waterfront for a host of piratical entertainment.

Britain Firework Championships

The beloved British Firework Championships, in partnership with Associated British Ports, takes place every year in August. With an evening of competitive firework displays, fairground rides and live music, this is an amazing family friendly event.

Because Plymouth is a university town, you’ll find a lot of culture and loads of vibrant events taking place all over the city. You’ll find everything from celebrity chefs hosting cookery workshops, courses and appearing at food festivals, art shows, music performances and special occasions like the Armed Forces Day National Events.

Whether you fancy messing about in boats, learning a new skill, sampling gin you’ve made yourself, watching some sport, clapping along at a theatre or browsing the stalls at a festival or two, then Plymouth is an ideal destination. There is so much going on, you might want to start adding a few of the events to your itineraries so you can be sure that you’ll be able to fit it all in! There will be events and activities to suit a wide range of tastes, abilities and budgets.
