Things to do in Tiverton

A stay here puts you firmly in the centre of the action, so as you might expect, there are a host of things to see and do when in Tiverton.

Unique, historic attraction

If you’ve ever wanted to step back in time, Tiverton is the place for you. It is a charming town with everything from castles, stately homes and some of the last horse drawn barges in the entire country. Tiverton Castle is one of the most popular heritage attractions and it also doubles as an accommodation – imagine living like a royal for the day and waking up in a castle every morning! Other nearby castles and heritage attractions include Knightshayes Court and Bickleigh Castle which are both managed by the National Trust.

Another popular attraction is the Grand Western Canal where you can find the horse drawn barges, cycle routes, walks and plenty of spots for enjoying a picnic or two! If that doesn’t give you enough of an insight into the town’s industrial history, make sure to stop off at the Tiverton Museum of Mid-Devon Life where you can find everything you might need to know about the region.

The Canal is a great place to visit for anyone who loves being active. Aside from the many walking and cycling routes around the canal path, you’ll also find opportunities to enjoy a boat ride or paddle at your own pace on a canoe, kayak or paddleboard along the canal – it’s the perfect way to spot the local wildlife!

In addition to the wide range of attractions that are easily accessible from the town, you’ll also find several activities and events taking place throughout the year including the Mid Devon Show – one of the county’s most historic annual events.
