North Devon is most famous for its glorious coastline, but that isn’t all the region has going for it. There a whole load of world-class events and activities taking place in the North Devon area all year around to suit every taste and budget.
As one of the largest festivals of its kind in North Devon, Appledore Book Festival attracts best sellers and publishers from around the UK. Taking place every September, previous lineups have included Jeremy Vine, Robert Harris, Celia Imrie, Philippa Langley, Veronica Henry, Louise Candlish, Jennie Godfrey, Fiona Williams and more.
One of the region’s most well-known shows is the North Devon Show which is a regular celebration of North Devon’s agricultural heritage. The show introduces you to a whole host of farm animals, such as alpacas, cattle, horses and sheep as well as traditional practises like show jumping and dog shows.
You’ll find arts and crafts, children’s events, fairs and festivals galore all over the area. As well as the beautiful coast, there are gardens, nature areas, theatres, shops and a whole host of other events to entertain everyone, whatever your age and interest.
As there is a fantastic coastline, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to spend time enjoying the sea air and waterside with a range of activities taking place, those of you who are happy to try out their sea legs will find lots of fun is to be had with these events. If you don’t want to join in a guided activity, there are rock pools and coves all over the north of Devon to be explored. Nature lovers will also love the area as there are plenty of places for walkers, cyclists and the sporty among you to do. The vast array of local produce also means you’ll find plenty of cookery and food related festivities, like the foodfest held every year in Barnstaple, which is a real treat for anyone attending.
