There are lots of lovely parks and gardens across Devon to visit and enjoy, partly because - in common with much of the UK - Devonians on the whole are great gardeners! Many also have play areas for children and cafes or shops/garden centres making them a great place for fun and relaxation.
Of course, Devon is also home to both Dartmoor National Park and Exmoor National Park, two of the UK’s most beautiful and important areas for the conservation of wildlife and natural beauty. Both are free to visit (you may have to pay a small fee for car parking) and have a huge wealth of information about what you can see and find online, in visitors centres and on boards that feature across both national parks. Both Exmoor National Park and Dartmoor National Park are home to wild species of plants and animals that are extremely scarce or totally unknown anywhere else in the world – and both also have some absolutely jaw-dropping views and landscapes.
You'll also find small and large parks and decorative gardens in most Devon towns and villages, as well as some award-winning ones too. They’re fantastic for those who are looking for a fun and inexpensive way to entertain the whole family with activities such as walking, cycling, football - or just sitting down and watching the world go by or enjoying a picnic. Devon’s well-looked after and child friendly parks are a great place to enjoy the great outdoors and have some fun.
Most city, town and villages have beautiful green lawns where you’ll find family play areas with age-appropriate play equipment, perhaps a beautiful bandstand, and often a skate park. With extensive play areas or vast open spaces for a game of football or rounders, going to a park during your stay is definitely a good option for keeping the whole family – and your purse - happy.
Take a look below, then start planning your trip - you'll find more ideas on the lotstodo website too.
