With August here and lots of time to keep the kids entertained over the summer holidays, many of us want to get outside and enjoy a breath of fresh air. While our summer weather so far has been a bit of a rollercoaster, we’re hoping for sunny skies and plenty of time to spend outside.
Seaton is full of fantastic green space to get out and about and for the kids to have a well-needed run around. Both Seafield Gardens and Underfleet Play Area and Skate Park have play equipment and activities so the litte ones are thoroughly entertained. You can even find Adventure Golf, tennis courts and an outdoor gym at Seafield Gardens, and the park was recently awarded a Green Flag! If you’re just looking for somewhere to settle and enjoy the great outdoors with a picnic or a book, there are plenty of areas to choose from. Windsor Gardens is located in the heart of Seaton, with flourishing flowerbeds, while Cliff Field Gardens enjoys coastal views and links to the South West Coast Path for those looking to explore more of the Jurassic Coast. While you visit Cliff Field Gardens, why not while away some time with Seaton Labyrinth & Geological Timeline? Celebrating 1000 years of the town, the labyrinth has 11 circuits revealing 185 million years of evolution, with the Geological Timeline spanning the origins of the Earth to the start of the human race.
If you’re looking to explore more of Seaton and East Devon’s wildlife, then a trip to Seaton Wetlands is a must! Recently awarded a Green Flag, the area is made up of three local nature reserves, with the Wetlands being a fantastic free day out and perfect for the wildlife enthusiasts among you. With 4km of accessible walks & trails, you can enjoy a peaceful stroll as you try and spot the many residents. If you want to discover some of the wildlife that calls the marshes home, make use of the many hides dotted throughout the reserve. At Seaton Marshes, you'll be able to catch sight of wildfowl, wading birds and dragonflies, while at Stafford Marsh there is a thatched field shelter. Make sure to keep an eye out for the new Avocet chicks while you’re there too.
Is it truly a day out in Seaton without a trip to the beach? Awarded a blue flag for a second year in a row means our beach meets many requirements and you can be sure of a great day out. Overlooking Lyme Bay, our pebble Bech stretches over a mile long and is perfect for those looking to swim or take part in watersports! With paddle boards and kayaks available to hire on the beach, everyone can join in the fun. Don’t forget that dogs are welcome all year round at the second beach zone!
