With the season changing, there is no better time to get out and see the beauty of Seaton – especially with the new flowers in bloom and the new calves, foals and lambs frolicking about in the fields surrounding the town centre. Seaton is nestled along the Jurassic Coast and is within the East Devon National Landscape – formerly known as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – so there are plenty of places to see spring take hold.

Here are a couple of easy walking routes, ideal for visitors of all ages to help you explore Seaton and the surrounding area.

Seaton Loop


This easy walk gives you excellent views of Seaton and will take you around all of the town’s best loved sights. Only around 3.31 miles, this walk will only take you around an hour and a half. Start off at Homer Lane, following the road down towards Tracey Avenue, before turning onto Seaton Down Road. Now take a right onto Bunts Lane.

Follow the route onto Beer Road, and then turn right onto the South West Coast Path, which will take you along the beach. Here you can stroll along the seafront, before exiting onto the Esplanade and onto Burrow Road.

Turn left onto Harbour Road and follow the roundabout to the right, this will bring you passed Seaton Tramway. Continue following the Underfleet around the round about and turn right onto Fore Street. Continue along to Colyford Road and then left onto Valley View.

From here, turn right onto Harepath Road, then left onto Barnards Hill Lane, which will bring you back to your starting location at Homer Lane.

Seaton to Holyford Wood

Another circular walk that is fairly easy to follow, this route will take you a little further to Holyford Woods, running around 4.39 miles and should take around 2 hours to complete.

Start at the western edge of Valley View, following the road until you reach a left turn at Scalwell Lane. Follow the road until you reach Scalwell Mead, turn off and follow the road until Harepath Road and then turn right.

Continue until you reach a left turn at Poplar Tree Drive and follow along until a right turn at Barnards Hill Lane, you can follow this along to Holyford Lane until you reach Holyford Brook. Turn left onto the footpath and continue in a westerly direction, this will bring you to the woods, where you are free to explore. If you follow the southern edge of the woods, you’ll end up at Seaton Down Hill, where you’ll find a picnic area. When you want to head back, you can continue down Seaton Down Hill until you reach a left turn for Traceys Avenue, here you can continue along Homer Lane before turning onto Barnards Hill Lnae, onto Harepath Road. This will bring you back to your starting point at Valley View.

Seaton town centre to Seaton Wetlands

For a shorter route that gives you a chance to explore the Seaton Wetlands, why not walk over from the town centre. There are a couple of different routes, but the shortest one is via Colyford Road, which will get you to the wetlands in under half an hour and is only a mile by foot.

Start off walking north on Queen Street towards Cross Street, turn right and follow the road along until the end, then turn left onto Fore Street. Continue straight onto Colyford Road and then turn right towards the Wetlands. From here you can explore the Island Hide and see what you can spot now the seasons are changing.

To return to the town centre, head back along Colyford Road, turn onto Fore Street and then Cross Street.
