Travelling to Sidmouth
Sidmouth is closer than you think! It's just over 2 hours on the fast train from London to our nearest rail station in Honiton which is hop, skip and a jump away by bus or taxi. The town is only ten miles off of the M5, making us easily accessible by road and just 30 minutes from Exeter airport, making Sidmouth one of the West Country’s most easily accessible destinations.
Travelling by car
Sidmouth is ten miles from junction 30 of the M5 (follow A3052) and nine miles from Honiton, follow A375. For anyone travelling with a SATNAV, you can find the town by using the postcode EX10 8XR, this will take you to our Information Centre in the town centre. From there, there are several car parks to choose from.
Taxis are easily available from all the major rail stations and nearby airports. Many taxi companies also offer pre booked hires.
Travelling by coach
Mainline coach companies offer trips into Devon and Sidmouth can then be accessed by using public transport or car hire. The National Express has services from all over the country to Exeter from there you can catch a bus on to Sidmouth using one of the many regular services that can be picked up directly outside the coach station. The National Express also has services that call at Tiverton and Plymouth in the south of Devon and Bideford, Barnstaple, Westward Ho! and Ilfracombe in the north of Devon. You can then use the rail or bus network to continue on to Sidmouth.
Travelling by Rail
Devon is serviced by both Great Western Railway and South West Trains and has main lines from Paddington and Waterloo. The county has several mainline stations including Tiverton, Exeter St Davids, Newton Abbot, Totnes and Plymouth, all of which have local services and bus connections that can get you to Sidmouth.
Many train ticketing apps will give you details of your connections and changes and some also give you information about local bus services.
Fast train services from London Waterloo stop at Honiton, from there you can catch one of the frequent buses to Sidmouth. Alternatively, there are services from the North, the Midlands and London Paddington to Exeter St David’s. Frequent bus services connect St David’s station with Exeter’s main bus station where you can find buses to Sidmouth to continue your journey. There are a range of taxi companies servicing the train stations across Devon which can be pre booked or just picked up at the Taxi station.
Travelling by bus
There is a regular bus service that allows you to easily travel around the whole county. From Exeter, there is a frequent bus service that connects St David’s station with the bus station, where you can find regular services to Sidmouth and the surrounding towns. The station has staff on hand who are able to help with the bus timetable and these can also be picked up at the station or via online apps.
For those travelling by train from Honiton, there is a regular service from the train station every day except Sunday.

Travelling by air
Exeter airport is thirty minutes from Sidmouth town centre. There are services for both domestic and international air travel. Domestic services includes flights from Aberdeen, Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Norwich and the Channel Islands. International flights service a number of airports across Europe including Schiphol, Amsterdam, Charles De Gaulle, Paris. You can also connect to Dublin, Geneva, Brest, Dubrovnik, Faro and Salzburg and catch long haul flights from Toronto.
The airport has car hire organisations as well as public transport connections.
