Sports

From sunrise to sunset, there are plenty of things to see and do in the Sid Valley including a range of sporting activities.

Sidmouth’s sports facilities are second to none and offer a range of activities and experiences to suit all tastes, ages and abilities. Whatever you’re looking to do on a day trip or holiday in Sidmouth and the surrounding area, you’ll find everything from adventure sports, spectator sports, gentle sports, sports designed to get the heart pumping and just about everything in between.

Boating, fishing and sailing

As you would expect from a town that hosts an annual regatta, boating and sailing are hugely popular activities. Boats still fish from Port Royal, where the town has its own 24 hour rescue boat in case of emergencies. Port Royal is one of the best places for fishing in Sidmouth, so avid anglers will want to head there.

Sailors should get in touch with Sidmouth Sailing Club who host the regular regatta races and offers everything from tuition to sailing sessions for a variety of ages. Try a few rounds of golf

Just because you’re on holiday doesn’t mean you have to miss out on a trip around the greens. Sidmouth Golf Club is a real jewel in Devon’s golfing crown. Located high above the town centre and with incredible views over Sidmouth, Sidmouth Golf Club can be found on the wooded western slopes of the Sid Valley. The course enjoys unblemished sea views and the clubhouse provides a panoramic view across Devon and the Lyme Bay.

You can find out more information for the golf club, including prices and availability online here or by phone on: 01395 513451.

As well as golfing, visitors can also enjoy a round of cricket or two. Sidmouth Cricket Club welcomes visitors and members throughout the season with matches played every weekend between April and September at Fortfield. Many midweek matches are held throughout the summer too, particularly during July and August, with many of them being played at the nearby Bicton College Ground. You can find more information about upcoming matches and membership online here or by phone: 01395 513229.
