As the Coronation of King Charles III approaches, Honiton will be celebrating the big day with The Coronation Big Lunch! The event will take place on Sunday 7th May, at Allhallows Playing Fields, where the community has been warmly invited to bring hampers, picnics, tables, chairs and blankets to come together and commemorate the special occasion.
The day will be packed full of entertainment to accompany the festivities. Starting from 11AM until 10PM, you can enjoy all-day music from local bands and a disco to plenty of fun for little ones too. Local Youth organisations will be running activity tents, a bouncy castle and games. And don’t forget to take part in face painting and glitter tattoos so you can truly look the part. Food vendors will also be on site selling food for those unable to bring any along.
These celebrations will be particularly special since both King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla visited Honiton in July 2018! As the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall at the time, they came to the town to celebrate the Gate to Plate event and sample the fantastic food & drink offerings Devon can provide.
Speaking in 2018, Councillor Henry Brown, mayor of Honiton, said: “It was a really great opportunity to put the town on the map and show the Royal couple, and especially people visiting the area, that we really do produce some fantastic crafts, food and drink. Today really demonstrated that the markets and that sort of vibe is very much alive, and it is just about introducing more of that and improving the tourism in the area and the town’s commerce as well.”
Hundreds flocked to the town to meet the royal couple as they explored the market and enjoyed Devon’s local food & drink. After such a memorable visit, the coronation celebrations are sure to be a huge success.
