With its proximity to the countryside and a host of wonderful dog friendly walking routes, Honiton is a great place for a day out or a short break with your dogs. Here’s a guide to how you can spend a day out with your dog in Honiton
Start your day with a scenic walk, perhaps at Roundball Wood and Hill. The ascent to Roundball Hill rewards you with panoramic views of Honiton and the surrounding Blackdown Hills. Remember to keep your dog on a lead, especially when livestock are present – the well marked trails around the woodland are suitable for dogs of all sizes and fitness levels.
Alternatively, there is Offwell Woods, which is just a short drive from Honiton town centre. Offwell Woods offers tranquil woodland paths and a picturesque lake. It's an ideal spot for a leisurely stroll, with picnic tables scattered around the lake for a restful pause.
Once you’ve worked up an appetite, head back to Honiton town centre, several of the pubs in and around the town are welcoming to dogs. You can enjoy a hearty meal with a local brew or two, while your dog laps up all the attention from passersby and has a rest ready for heading back out.
In the afternoon, there are a couple of local attractions nearby that are happy for dogs to join you. The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth and Seaton Tramway for instance are both dog friendly – alternatively, head to one of the beaches that can be found around the Jurassic Coast. You will find that some of them have restrictions, depending on the time of year, while others are happy for your dog to dig in the sand and chase the waves all year round.
