Just because the days are getting darker and the temperature drops doesn’t mean that North Devon is closed for business. The spectacular coastline takes on a whole new atmosphere in the winter months (perfect for a bracing walk!) and the Exmoor National Park becomes, if it’s possible, even more dramatic. That’s not all – many of North Devon’s top attractions and family favourite destinations are still open and offering all the same fun and games that they do during the summer!

If you want to avoid the crowds of the busier months but don’t want to sacrifice on the adventures, make sure to visit North Devon this winter and if you need some inspiration here are some of the attractions that welcome visitors all year round.

RHS Rosemoor

RHS Rosemoor’s gardens adapt with every season so there is always something beautiful to see – no matter what the weather. In the winter months, the gardens play host to a series of festive activities and events, including a Winter Sculpture Exhibition (running until the end of January), RHS Glow (which has to be seen to be believed), wreath and wicker activities and Big Band performances among others.

Dartington Crystal

As well as offering a wide range of Christmas gifts, Dartington Crystal also offers factory tours and other fun (there’s even a gin bar there!). The creative activities are perfect for both children and adults and can even provide some interesting gift ideas!

Clovelly

The village of Clovelly is a tourist attraction in its own right and there is no right time of year to visit and see the historic harbour, walk the cobbles and meet the resident donkeys. During the school holidays, there are additional activities held to make the visit even more fun and if you visit on Boxing Day, it’s free to enter!

The Big Sheep

Don’t forget, it isn’t just rides and sheep racing at this time of year, there are also Christmas markets taking place on selected weekends in December and some additional winter fun at the indoor play centre.

Exmoor Zoo

Located on the edge of the Exmoor National Park, the zoo is often described as one of the West Country’s hidden gems and once you’ve been, you’ll see why. With daily animal talks and interactive displays, the zoo is always well worth a visit.
