British weather is always a bit hit and miss, especially at this time of year – don’t worry though, there are still plenty of ways you can still have fun in North Devon without the risk of being caught out in the rain!

Here are a couple of our favourite things to do when the weather is against us.

Treat yourself

One way to enjoy North Devon when the clouds start gathering is to ignore the weather completely by booking into one of the region’s spas. There are loads of hotels offering amazing spa and leisure facilities for use of both guests and non guests. The Barnstaple Hotel in Barnstaple has one of the only heated outdoor pools in North Devon (it has shelter!)  on top of indoor pools, fitness suites, saunas and more. They’re part of the Brend hotels who have several sites across North Devon with their own luxury facilities, including those at Saunton Sands Hotel near Croyde Bay. Highbullen Hotel has an extensive range of leisure facilities and their own Elemis spa where you can restore, refresh and relax. Perfect for blocking out the bad weather!

Keep the kids entertained

If you’re in town with kids (big and small) don’t panic if the weather betrays you, there are loads of options to keep them entertained whatever their age. The Big Sheep is an award winning family attraction come rain or shine and features an action packed programme of rides, shows, animals, indoor play and more for you to enjoy all day long.

For older kids, take a look at the Milky Way Adventure Park in Bideford. Having won TripAdvisor’s Traveller’s Choice Award every year for the past five years, you’re guaranteed a good day out here! With new attractions and activities being added all the time, every visit is different.

For the whole family

While the whole family can get involved at one of the region’s adventure parks, rides etc aren’t for everyone so here are a few other suggestions for you. Ilfracombe Aquarium is one of the go to places when visiting Ilfracombe, centrally located at the harbour and full of exciting exhibits. It is a unique and fascinating way of finding out more about the local marine life and the oceans across the world.

Or for something a little different, Dartington Crystal is the only remaining UK glass factory where you can watch skilled glass makers in action, join in on a self guided tour and even pick up some of the very pieces you see being made!

Of course, this is just a small sample of what is on offer in North Devon and Exmoor, find out more all weather attractions and see what else you can add to your itineraries by clicking here.
