It might still feel like 2025 has only just begun, but it will be Easter before you know it. If you’re planning a trip over the Easter break, why not spend some time in Budleigh Salterton? Here are some of our top suggestions of things to do over Easter while in town.
Spend days at the beach
Budleigh is renowned for its stunning two-mile-long pebble beach, perfect for a relaxed stroll as the gentle waves lap the shore. The view over Lyme Bay is breathtaking, and if you’re lucky and the weather is warm enough, you might catch sight of local wildlife, including seals and seabirds. For an extra special Easter experience, consider bringing a picnic and enjoying the crisp sea air while watching the sunset.
Visit the River Otter Estuary Nature Reserve
If you don’t have any luck spotting wildlife on the beach, you’ll definitely see some at the River otter Estuary Nature Reserve. The reserve is home to over 120 different species of bird and there are beavers and otters living along the river that you might be lucky enough to spot too!
While you’re exploring, you could follow the Otter Valley Wildlife Walk, running for around 2.7 miles, this walk is suitable for all ages and abilities. Start at Lime Kiln Car Park and follow the signs through the Lower Otter Valley and parts of the South West Coast Path. Along the way, you’ll come across hides and viewing platforms, so there are plenty of chances to stop and see what animals or plants you can see.
Explore the South West Coast Path
If you followed the Otter Valley Wildlife Walk, you will have followed bits of the South West Coast Path, so why not check out some more? This national trail connects Devon, Dorset and Somerset and there are a host of routes to help you explore. From Budleigh Salterton, you can follow the path through to Exmouth where you can see some amazing coastal views, complete with wildflowers and birdlife.
Enjoy some Easter treats
Something you will notice about the East Devon area is that we’re all very proud of our seasonal, locally sourced menus – so you won’t be short of Easter treats at Budleigh’s cafes and restaurants. You could stop off for a cream tea or indulge in a hot cross bun or two! What could be better fuel for tackling the South West Coast Path?!
