This August is proving to be a busy month here in Honiton with many of the town's staple events taking place! Nestled within the countryside, Honiton is home to lots of traditional events, from agriculture and farming to quirky and unique cultural events. Make sure you don’t miss out on any of the fun this August!
Firstly is the Honiton Show, taking place on Thursday 3rd August at Honiton Showground. Taking place on the first Thursday of each year, the show is a staple of the farming community and one of the largest one-day agricultural shows in the country! Showcasing the best of local farming, crafts & rural skills, the show has a unique atmosphere, blending traditional and new as one. Held by the Honiton & District Agricultural Association - ‘Where Farming Comes First’, the show not only promotes agriculture and related industries but also nominates an official charity each year to provide them with the opportunity to raise funds.
Catch lots of Farm Competitions and classes throughout the day, as well as the West of England Hound Show, the second largest in the country. Headline acts also include The Devil’s Horsemen, stunt and trick horse riders, as well as FreestyleXtreme rider Jamie Squibb and his team of riders performing their own jumps and stunts! Each year the show attracts 20,000 visitors as well as over 1,000 livestock entries and 400 trade exhibitors, making it one of the largest business and social events in East Devon!

Later on in the month, make sure you don’t miss out on Honiton’s Gate to Plate Festival, taking place on Saturday 19th August. Returning to Honiton High Street, this free one-day festival celebrates local food, drink and craft creators and last year held more than 50 stallholders. From cheeses, gourmet meats, locally produced cider and wine, desserts and homeware items. Make sure you don’t miss out on hot food stalls as well so you can sample local delights while you’re there. Once attended by King Charles & Queen Camilla back in 2018, you know that you’re in for a delicious day out.
