Just because summer is coming to an end doesn’t mean you have to wait another year before coming to Sidmouth. If you’re worried about travelling to the coast in the autumn months because of the weather – don’t worry, there are plenty of ways to keep entertained over the next couple of months, even if the weather does take a turn for the worst.  Here are some of our suggestions, so rain doesn’t have to stop play.

Enjoy dinner and a show

Enjoying a meal out and then sitting down for some entertainment has long been a favourite pastime and with plenty of food and drink options across Sidmouth and both the town cinema and the theatre, you can easily escape the rain for a few hours. The cinema has been screening blockbusters, operas, National Theatre performances and more since the 1920s, while the Manor Pavilion Theatre is the only UK theatre to still have a weekly professional summer repertory season, which runs until 12th September before being replaced with a programme of theatre performances including musicals, plays and more.

Indulge in some retail therapy

One of the biggest draws to Sidmouth is their independent highstreet. There are a host of shops, cafés and tearooms around the town comprising of brand names and smaller independents where you can pick up a range of products, from clothes to books to more. If the weather turns on you, you can shelter in the town’s department store or browse the shops without having to worry about getting too wet.

Learn something new

Whether you want to visit one of the town’s museums and find out more about the history of the town and the Jurassic Coast or you choose to attend a workshop, being stuck inside because of the weather is the perfect opportunity. In Sidmouth, you can create some pottery to take home with you as a heartfelt and unique gift or perhaps do some art – you can find a host of events and activities here.
