The countdown is officially on for Mother’s Day. One of the most important dates in the calendar, it’s your chance to show some love to those special ladies in your life - whether it be your own mum, your significant other, your sister or your best friend, we all know a mum who deserves a bit of spoiling.
But what to do and where to go? With so much going on, it can be hard to know exactly what to pick. Plus, the clock is ticking and things are getting booked up.
Have no fear: we’ve compiled the best days out to celebrate the occasion, and we’ve got the lowdown on any cheeky offers that have popped up too. Keep reading to discover what they are.
With an Afternoon Tea
Think an afternoon tea might hit the spot? The home of the delicious cream tea, North Devon is the perfect place to get your fill.
One of our favourites, high tea at Tea on the Green in Westward Ho! is always a treat.
Marwood Hill Gardens will just have reopened from the season, and their Tea Room has always been a popular choice. At Arlington Court, tuck into a delicious Mother’s Day tea after wandering the incredible grounds of this National Trust location.
Alternatively, pop into the ever-welcoming John’s of Instow or Appledore for a prosecco cream tea treat at a bargain price of £10 per head.
The offers keep coming. Over at Saunton Sands Hotel, you can enjoy use of the terrace lounge and order a decadent silver service afternoon tea in the terrace lounge. With just a slight increase in price, you can choose to add a celebratory glass of prosecco or champagne to mark the occasion.
With a Meal Out
Saunton Sands have kept the offers rolling; they’re offering a three course lunch in the dining room, featuring a playing pianist and small gift for mum included in the price.
Of course, Sunday isn’t Sunday without a roast dinner, and there are plenty of places to enjoy one. Over at the Park Hotel, you can enjoy a carvery and dessert for just £19.95 (or £9.95 for children) that’ll make for the perfect fill following a relaxing stroll around Rock Park.
Rosemoor Gardens offer their Sunday carvery, which is the perfect option to enjoy following a day spent wandering their glorious gardens and grounds.
With a Spa Day
The spa at Saunton Sands Hotel is a perfect wellness retreat, and there are some ideal packages available to book. The Pampered Pair package for two allows full use of hotel facilities, alongside luxury treatments and complementary additions, like tea, coffee, and a glass of fizz - as well as the incredible views over Saunton beach.
If that doesn’t work for you, perhaps surprise mum with a midweek spa break or purchase a couple of vouchers for her to use later.
The Highbullen Hotel also have a fantastic spa that you could book a break at, with more fantastic packages offering generous prices for your chance to unwind.
With the Kids
If the whole family are celebrating together, you’d best arrange a fun day out with the kids. Luckily, North Devon’s family attractions are designed with all ages in mind, promising a day that’ll make mum smile as much as it does the children.
Over at the Big Sheep, mums can expect free entry when accompanied by one full paying child under the age of 16. Not only are there fun rides, shows and attractions to get involved with, but mum will surely love a tasting in the Brewery or Gin Distillery.
Bring the kids along to Arlington Court for a day of creativity and crafts - they’ll have the opportunity to make you your own unique gift too.
If the weather looks up, there’s always a fun - and free - day out to be had on the beach. Enjoy the beautiful views over Croyde or Putsborough, explore the Saunton Dunes or unwind with a family walk around Westward Ho! or Woolacombe.
With a Twist
Want to do something a little bit more unique this year? You’re in the right part of the country for it. As well as all of your more traditional attractions, you can book something totally unique here in North Devon.
For example, why not take mum on a trip to Clovelly Village? Private, car-less and cobbled, it’s one of North Devon’s most iconic locations. Get involved with some crafts, meet the village donkeys, and finish off with a delicious meal in the harbour restaurant.
Alternatively, visit Lynton and Lynmouth Railway, where mums will enjoy a free ride plus the opportunity to drive a diesel! You don’t have to book for this one, just arrive on the day.
So what will you be getting up to this Mother’s Day? Will it be one of the events we mentioned, or will you be branching out? Either way, be sure to let us know on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram!
