Sidmouth is so much more than beautiful scenes and iconic cliffs, the town is also a cultural hub with a huge array of activities and attractions, including a bustling high street and everything from big brand shops to unique, independent stores.  

If you’re in the mood for some serious retail therapy, you’ll find lots of opportunities to exercise your bank balance all over the town. Whether you’re looking for local crafts, unique gift ideas, books, homeware or clothes and accessories, you’ll find it all here. From familiar names to local hand-made gifts and produce, the items on sale is as diverse as the town itself.  

So many places to shop 

Sidmouth’s shops aren’t just confined to the high street, shops are spread out throughout the town, giving you plenty of places to explore to find the perfect gifts.  

Fore Street and Old Fore Street are great places to head for accessories and clothes as well as cards, gifts and homeware, while Market Place is the place to go for Sidmouth’s department store, Fields of Sidmouth, which has stood on the street for over 200 years and boutique stores like the iconic bright pink store, Crane and Kind.  

High Street chains can be found dotted throughout the town between independent stores, allowing you to find all your favourite brands and anything else that you might need.

Everywhere you go in Devon, you can find evidence of the region’s love of arts and crafts and it is no different in Sidmouth. You’ll find plenty of shops and galleries in and around the town selling locally made art, photography, crafts and more as well as shops that offer creative activity days.  

Bibliophiles will want to spend their days exploring the town’s book stores, especially if you’re visiting during either Sidmouth or nearby Budleigh Salterton’s Literary Festivals or you can spend your time delving into the past by exploring the many antique shops. Sidmouth offers a great day out for those that like to hunt down items from yesteryear.  

Haven for independent shopping 

If you want something a little bit different, shy away from the high street and check out Sidmouth’s independent retailers, you’ll find unique clothes, jewellery and gifts that you just won’t find anywhere else. From cute boutique stores to shops selling items from local designers, you can find the very best in alternative products. If you want high street brands though, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to pick up a brand name bargain or two from familiar names.  

Being in Sidmouth means you can easily other shops and shopping centres in the wider East Devon area, places such as Seaton and Beer are only a few miles away and have their own range of high street and independent stores for you to seek out the perfect holiday gifts for those back home.  

Best local produce 

In addition to local arts and crafts, Sidmouth’s producers are also known for the quality of their locally produced food and drink which you can easily find at regular farmers’ markets and the region’s delis and farm shops.  

This is one of the best ways to sample the real taste of the Sid Valley, look out for local organic vegetables, dairy produce, locally caught fish and home reared meat as well as locally brewed cider, beer and wines and spirits distilled right here in East Devon.
