The summer season is creeping closer, which means there is plenty to look forward to across East Devon, here are some of the events still to come this year to add to your diaries.
Sidmouth Bio-Diversity Festival, various locations around Sidmouth
7th – 9th June
With a variety of activities and events taking place over the weekend, there are plenty of chances to learn about the region’s biodiversity. Some events require booking, while others are open to everyone without a maximum capacity. Head to their website to find out more.

Pixie Day, Ottery St Mary
22nd June
This traditional day is a fun re-enactment of the banishment of the town’s pixies, join in with the games and watch the local children become pixies and capture the town’s bell ringers.
Hot pennies Day, Honiton
23rd July
Another local tradition, hot pennies were originally thrown at the locals by the wealthy, but today it is much more fun! Pennies are thrown for children to catch and there is a jovial atmosphere to really help you enjoy a summer’s day in East Devon.
Honiton Show, Honiton Showground
1st August
Running every year, the Honiton Show features livestock exhibitions, equestrian events and plenty more entertainment, including a childrens’ area and food and drink. It s a great way to experience a real taste of East Devon.
Sidmouth Folk Festival, various locations around Sidmouth
2nd – 9th August
One of the biggest events in the region, Sidmouth Folk Festival offers a week long celebration of music, dance and more across the town, with entertainment for visitors of all ages.
Sidmouth Regatta, Sidmouth Esplanade
25th August
This year’s Regatta doesn’t feature the traditional air show, but that doesn’t mean the fun has stopped! There is plenty to keep you entertained throughout the event!
Sidmouth Walking Festival, various locations around East Devon
14th – 20th September
Explore East Devon and the Jurassic Coast with these scheduled and guided walks as part of the Walking Festival. Head to the TIC to learn more and to pick up your tickets.
Budleigh Literary Festival, various locations around Budleigh Salterton
18th – 22nd September
Following on from their successful literary weekend in March is Budleigh’s famous literary festival featuring renowned authors and covering workshops, panels and more – the perfect event for readers and writers alike.
Sidmouth Classic Car Show, Sidmouth Cricket Club
21st September
If you love classic cars, come along to this event and enjoy a touch of nostalgia while also supporting good causes.
Sidmouth Science Festival, various locations in Sidmouth
4th – 13th October
Growing year on year, this event is perfect for all ages – all you need is curiosity! The majority of the events and workshops are also free to attend!
Ottery Tar Barrels, Ottery St Mary
5th November
Perhaps the most unique event on this list, people come from all over to see the traditional Ottery Tar Barrels. Locals parade through the streets with flaming barrels of tar, making their way down to a bon fire. It’s been taking place for centuries, so it is one not to be missed!
