Autumn is a great time to visit East Devon with your dog – there are a host of lovely walks, the beaches are all open from this month onwards and the hustle and bustle of summer is over, so there is much more space and freedom for your dogs to explore!

With fewer people and the changing season, you can really enjoy the region’s beautiful walks. The South West Coast Path have a variety of dog friendly routes around the Jurassic Coast which will give you plenty of opportunities to explore the beautiful towns and villages around Sidmouth. The Sid Valley Ring walk is also lovely at this time of year and will take you through Sidmouth Esplanade, through to Connaught Gardens and into the villages of Sidbury, Salcombe Regis and Sidford before coming back to the Byes area of Sidmouth, where you can enjoy a tranquil walk around the river.

At this time of year, your dogs can also enjoy a visit to the beach. All of East Devon’s beaches are open to dogs at this time of year. The restrictions across all the beaches lifted on 1st October and remain so until 30th April next year when the next season begins and there is nothing dogs like more than chasing waves!

Just be aware to keep your dog on a lead and to be respectful of other beach users. Ensure your dog is well behaved and to clean up after them – that way everyone escaping to the beach this autumn can enjoy the seaside!

As well as the beach and a host of walks, there are also a number of attractions and places to stay with your dog in and around Sidmouth too. Make sure to click below for suggestions for a fun day out with your dogs!
