With the warmer weather on its way, it’s the perfect time to enjoy some time outside in the beautiful East Devon countryside with the family. So, pack your blankets and your favourite snacks and check out these popular picnic spots from around the region.

Budleigh Salterton Beach 

The beach in Budleigh Salterton, with its pebbles makes it ideal for a picnic - no sand in your sandwiches! Not only that, but it has a serene environment, with the nature reserve at one end and the gently crashing waves, perfect for a little romance or for just enjoying the calm. 

River Otter

Whether you join the River Otter's pathways in Budleigh or in nearby Ottery St Mary, there are plenty of riverside walking routes and tranquil spots for spreading out your blankets and enjoying some refreshments. If you're lucky, you might even catch sight of one of the river's resident otters or beavers. 

The Glen, Honiton

Moving outside of Budleigh, the town of Honiton has plenty of picnic spots. Surrounded by countryside and near the Blackdown Hills, there are loads of places to enjoy dining al fresco, including the Glen, a six acre public park in the heart of the town. It's a favourite for visitors and residents alike, especially if you have a dog with you. 

Fire Beacon Hill 

For a picnic spot with a view, head to Fire Beacon Hill where you can enjoy panoramic views of the countryside across East Devon, there is also a nature reserve here, which is rich in wildlife, giving you plenty of chances to catch sight of birds and plantlife.
