Sidmouth is a great destination for the family, not only do you have a host of attractions right on the doorstep, plenty of options for places to stay and lots of things to keep the whole family entertained. If you’re planning a trip to the town with the family, here are our suggestions of ways to keep everyone entertained, no matter what their age.
Jump on a board
Being on the Jurassic Coast means that you have lots of opportunities to challenge yourself with some watersports. The Lyme Bay is ideal for anyone who wants to give surfing, paddleboarding or kayaking a try – in the warmer months you can find concession stands offering equipment hire and tuition but even at this time of year, you can find people braving the water. It isn’t all about sports either, there are boat trips and gentler canoe trips available too which are a good family friendly activity. It’s also a fun new way to see the Jurassic Coast in a new light.
Or on a bike!
There are some excellent cycle routes in and around Sidmouth. The National Cycle Network Route 2 passes through Sidmouth, as does the Buzzard Route. Another popular route is the Sidmouth to Ladram route. Or you could always explore the wider area by visiting the East Devon Way where you can see more of the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Explore the South West Coast Path
The South West Coast Path is a great way to explore the region and it takes in part of the Jurassic Coast. You can pick up the trail in Sidmouth and follow the route through to nearby towns and villages. Several places along the route provide passports and stamps, so why not see how many you can collect
Visit a museum
Weather stopped play? You don’t have to worry about being cooped up with the kids all day or having to step outside your planned budget for the day – many of the region’s museums offer free entry, so you can keep dry, stay entertained and even learn something!
