Lifestyle website, Muddy Stilettos have revealed their 250 top places to live in the UK outside of London for 2023 and Sidmouth makes the cut!

Sidmouth is one of ten places across Devon to appear on the list and is rated for its “seaside location, unspoilt open spaces and buzzing town centre,” as well as its “desirable range of period housing.” Nearby Exmouth also featured on the list, alongside Okehampton, Ashburton, Tiverton, Totnes, Topsham, Tavistock, Kingsbridge and parts of Exeter.

The list was compiled using local attractions, school ratings and the cost of housing with Muddy Stilettos pointing out the town’s history, including the blue plaque trail and Georgian buildings, as well as the local fish and seafood and of course, the world famous Folk Festival.

Speaking to local reporters, a representative from Muddy Stilettos talked more about why Sidmouth was included on the list saying: “Where so many seaside towns have faded, Sidmouth has retained its Regency lustre with an unspoiled beachfront and a busy labyrinth of indie galleries, boutiques and cafes in the centre.

“It is the very desirable range of period property, from thatched and gothic to detached Victorian and Georgian family homes, for which it scooped a spot in Muddy’s Best Places to Live 2023.”

Muddy Stilettos describe the town as long being a mecca for tourists but that it is far from sleepy, “especially in August when the annual Folk Festival comes to town.” Other places in the town that were listed as highlights included the Byes, the restaurants, Connaught Gardens and Jacobs Ladder beach, as well as nearby attractions, such as the Donkey Sanctuary.
