Sidmouth Sea Fest is ready to kick-off Sidmouth’s vibrant festival season once again with the Sea Fest Party on Friday 15th May from 4pm to 11pm – this ticketed event raises funds to help cover the costs of the Free Family Day on Saturday 16th May 10am to 11.30pm.

For the second year the event will take place at Connaught Gardens, following the success of last years debut in the gardens.  The setting is perfect for this year’s eco conscious theme Marine and Green, which recognises that everyday choices add up to meaningful change.

Sidmouth Coastal Community Hub, producers of Sea Fest are developing a new  collaborative Marine and Green Charter for Sidmouth with the support of national lottery funding.

The charter and the process is all about Agency, Hope and Action.  It aims to raise awareness of the of the environmental challenges facing our coastal location and to promote a joined‑up approach to caring for the Sid Valley.

Whole Community Approach

Many individuals, community groups, and local businesses are already working hard to improve water quality, conserve nature, care for green spaces, support biodiversity, protect rivers and the sea, reduce waste, and support responsible energy use.

Everyone in Sidmouth is invited to help shape the Charter, to share what they are already doing and their pledges – positive steps to take to care for our Marine and Green environments.

Residents, groups and businesses are asked to complete the survey via this link Marine & Green Charter – Sidmouth Coastal Community Hub

The multigenerational festival will be back with music, dance, art, crafts, food and drink – all connected to the Marine and Green theme – whether that is locally sourced food, hand made crafts using recycled materials, activities, ideas and conversations all focused on building stronger community actions to look after people and the planet.

The festival hosts three stages – Main Stage by the lawn, the Clocktower Stage by the Clocktower Café and the Clamship, dj booth in the Boatyard and the music programme starts with the Sea Fest Community Choir this year in the beautiful walled garden setting at the Clocktower Stage.

The festival is unique, a not-for-profit model, home grown, powered by volunteers and has always been about the coming together of our coastal community.

The festivals’ commitment to community, creativity and to a “green” and “blue” event that values our natural and marine environment, is a value base that is strongly held by the team of three who lead the event Coco Hodgkinson, Louise Cole and Tara Greifenberg and by our amazing team of volunteers.

Artistic Director Coco Hodgkinson said “Connaught Gardens is such a fabulous location, we are looking forward to creating a really immersive festival experience where you may see a Mermaid, take a wander through a sea of jellyfish or catch sight of a shark!”

Marketing and Creative Director Tara Greifenberg said “With something for everyone our fantastic lineup also nurtures grassroots music talent thanks to the Arts Council Grassroots Music fund for the second year – we are providing a place to perform – a vital part of supporting bands and musicians as they learn their craft enable young and emerging artists to share the bill with more established acts.”

Festival Director Louise Cole added  ”Our Friday night aims to tap into local and new audiences especially for young people and brings a fresh energy to the town – helping us to fund the free family day on Saturday.  We are excited to have anchored the whole festival with our sustainable development aims – exploring together how we can hold onto hope and feel empowered to make a positive difference together to look after our green and blue home”.
