Visitors and residents can now see the first of JJ Waller’s Your Town My Town works on the Sidmouth Wallspace, the town’s unique public gallery at the Ham Car Park, Sidmouth.

The image was made in August 2024 for the Your Town My Town project in collaboration with Sidmouth School of Art and Sidmouth Folk Festival. JJ Waller was the festival’s photographer in residence, taking pictures around the festival and of local people enjoying the music and culture of the folk festival. Waller is a celebrated photographer known for his evocative street photography of British sea side towns. Through the Your Town My Town project, he is making a body of work that will create a “snapshot in time portrait of Sidmouth”, a town that he describes as being “unique” and full of “can-do people.”

As well as viewing the work at Sidmouth Wallspace, JJ Waller will also be presenting images of local people and groups from the first phase of the project at the Arts Centre, Manor Pavilion on 20th November from 7pm.

The event will include a talk about his work and host a Q&A session. Tickets can be booked here
