Thinking about getting away from it all for Christmas? There are loads of great destinations around the UK that are perfect for a winter break, including Sidmouth and the Jurassic Coast – need a little convincing?
Here are all the reasons why we love seaside stays for Christmas.
The food
One of the best things about Christmas is the array of delicious food and drink and with East Devon’s natural larder, it’s even more delectable! Either stop by one of the Christmas markets across East Devon to stock up on local produce or visit one of the many eateries across Sidmouth for festive menus full of locally sourced ingredients.
The views
I mean, is there anything more spectacular than seeing the Jurassic Coast coated in frost or snow?

Great places to stay
Sidmouth is a wonderful place to stay all year round but at Christmas – it’s even more so! With the Regency style buildings and the fact that many of the hotels were once family holiday homes, the decorations really transport you back to a simpler time. Full of decorations, amazing food and drink and cosy fireplaces, whether you go for a self catering or a hotel stay, you can easily find the perfect get away this Christmas. You won’t even need to worry about Father Christmas missing you, the staff are on hand to let him know where you’re staying so you can still unwrap gifts on the big day!
Hotels in Sidmouth offering Christmas breaks include the Victoria and the Belmont Hotels. These sister hotels both have incredible views over the coast and are offering similar packages for the Christmas break. Staying with these hotels will give you access to traditional lunches on the big day, a Christmas hamper in your room for your arrival and free, unlimited use of the facilities including the spa and the putting green at the Victoria Hotel.
There are also packages for those of you who need some R and R in the lead up to the big day or anyone who wants a Be-twixtmas or New Year Stay, full of entertainment and exception food and hospitality.
The Hotel Riviera is another great option for a Christmas stay – they’re currently offering a discount on their winter breaks. You’ll find options for both Christmas and New Year breaks, both with festive dining, decorations and entertainment throughout your stay.
Further along the Esplanade, the Royal York and Faulkner is a popular spot for Christmas and New Year stays. With friendly personal service, relaxed seasonal entertainment and fine food, it’s not hard to see why! Christmas stays include full board, while New Year stays include a gala dinner and Champagne.
If you’d rather a self catering stay, Sweetcombe Cottages have several available properties for the Christmas and New Year season, all within easy reach of Sidmouth and the Jurassic Coast and all comfortable – ideal for hiding away from it all at the end of the year.
A great place for grabbing last minute gifts
When it comes to gifts, you can find a wide range of presents from Sidmouth’s range of independent and high street shops. In the run up to Christmas, you’ll find that many of the shops stay open later and there are markets and other opportunities to pick up unique gifts from around the region.
