September is a great time for foodies, it is the season when things start moving from summer into autumn and with it, you get a whole host of new flavours and dishes. That’s why it’s a great time to visit some of Sidmouth’s restaurants, so you can enjoy the final taste of summer, while also sampling the first dishes of the autumn season.

For an informal spot of lunch to break up a shopping session, visit the restaurant at King’s Garden and Leisure. Offering a wide range of meals and snacks, covering everything from breakfast to afternoon tea and made up of locally sourced ingredients, Kings is a lovely spot to stop for refreshments. Plus, the attached garden centre and farm shop, gives you plenty of chances to do a little shopping or simply while away the hours browsing.

Nearby in Seaton, you can experience a taste of the Med without having to leave East Devon by stopping off at Le Pisani. Despite having dishes full of exotic flavours, everything on their menu is created using fresh, local produce and is lovingly put together to make something unique and flavourful. There are options for everyone, including those who are gluten free, veggie and vegan – so there really is plenty of choice.

If you’re looking for a more formal dining experience, book a table at the Victoria Hotel in Sidmouth. The hotel is renowned for its fine dining and has several options, including the White Room which is a little more relaxed and the Jubilee, where jackets and ties are a must. (You can even borrow them if you make a spur of the moment decision to eat here!) With soothing live music played while you eat, this is a really wonderful way to experience fresh, seasonal dishes with incredible views.

You’ll find similar fare at the Victoria’s sister establishment, The Belmont Hotel. The restaurant here is one of the best loved in the region and features an extensive range of a la carte menus, Silver Service and a resident pianist to serenade you as you eat. Their Horizon restaurant has lovely views over the bay, while the Victoria Suite overlooks the gardens. The Belmont Restaurant however is the place to go for quality fine dining. With the herbs grown on the premises and plenty of fresh, seasonal flavours, you can really experience the best of what East Devon has to offer.

It isn’t all fine dining and dress codes, you can find more informal, light lunches at a variety of places around the town and further afield. You can find cafes offering everything from soups and sandwiches to cream tea here or for a hearty pub lunch, check out what’s on offer here.
