October half term is nearly here and there is no better time to enjoy the autumn season! East Devon, with its abundance of countryside is the perfect destination for seeing the seasons change and with the coastal paths and easy access to the Jurassic Coast, there are plenty of chances to go fossil hunting and enjoy a quieter day at the beach!

Here are our suggestions for things to do over half term.

Visit one of the region’s top attractions

East Devon is always popular with families because of the nearby attractions. Seaton Tramway has plenty going on over half term, as have many of the other nearby attractions – so there is plenty to keep you entertained here! Crealy is also close by and has a whole Halloween themed spookfest planned, so get your tickets ready.

Go exploring

As well as the South West Coast Path and the Jurassic Coast to explore, there are loads of great walking route around East Devon. The East Devon Way is a great option for anyone who wants to get out on their bikes, while Peak Hill, Mutters Moor and the Byes in Sidmouth make great places to get out and about in nature.  In Sidmouth and Ottery town centres, there are also heritage and Blue Plaque trails, giving you a chance to learn something new and get some fresh air.

During half term, there are also events and activities going on at places like Seaton Wetlands, which are a great way to enjoy the autumn season.

Spend your pocket money

If the weather isn’t great or you want to get a head start on the Christmas shopping (we know, but it’ll be here before you know it!) there’s plenty of opportunity for retail therapy in East Devon. Sidmouth is home to over 50 independent businesses and places like Honiton and Budleigh Salterton have a wonderful selection of unique shops selling everything from antiques to gifts you won’t find anywhere else.

Go fossil hunting

Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton are both great places to go looking for evidence of dinosaurs, just remember to leave everything as you found it – it’s illegal to take the pebbles from the beach!
