If you’re looking for a dog friendly day out, this is the best time of year – it’s often quieter as the season hasn’t quite kicked off yet and many of the county’s beaches haven’t yet had their restrictions imposed meaning there are plenty of chances to have some fun with your furry friends!

Until 30th April, all of East Devon’s beaches are open to dogs, including Sidmouth Town Beach and Sidmouth’s Jacobs Ladder beach – just make sure to steer clear of the area around Port Royal at the eastern end of the prom. Elsewhere in the region, dogs can enjoy the entirety of both Seaton and Budleigh beaches until the end of April, when restrictions apply to the middle section of the beach.

Don’t fancy washing sand off those paws? Why not explore some of the best loved walking routes in the area? The South West Coast Path has several recommended routes for exploring with dogs, as does the East Devon Way.

Around Sidmouth, there are several spots ideal for dog walking, including the routes around Hooken Cliffs, Salcombe Hill and Peak Hill.

We all know that dogs are a part of the family, so don’t leave yours behind when visiting, did you know dogs are welcome to join you at some of the region’s attractions too? Dogs are welcome to wander around the Donkey Sanctuary with you for example.

Here in East Devon, we’re always happy to see your dogs having a fun day out, just remember to respect other beach users and other dogs – like us, not every dog likes being approached and interacted with! Also make sure to clean up after yourself and your dog while out and about, even if you are out in the wilderness and on the beach and be sure to have a lead handy, especially if there is a danger of disturbing natural habitats.

Most importantly though, have fun and don’t forget to share your photos with us! Tag us in your Instagram posts of your dogs having a ball in East Devon using @visitsidmouth or #VisitSidmouth – you never know, they might even make an appearance on our website!
