East Devon District Council has announced that Sidmouth's Connaught Gardens are now licensed to hold wedding ceremonies and that events can begin once current restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic allow.
The council has said that a number of locations within the gardens, which were named for the first Duke of Connaught, the son of Queen Victoria, are available for hire as wedding venues, including the bandstand gardens. The decision was reached after councillors made the case that the award winning gardens, which can be found on Peak Hill Road and overlook the sea, with access to the beach via Jacob's Ladder steps, will prove to be a sought after venue.
Councillor Geoff Jung, EDDC’s portfolio holder for the coast, country and environment, said: “Connaught Gardens in Sidmouth is a wonderful location for the hosting a wedding. We are sure this will be a very popular location with the award-winning gardens and one of the best views in the South West.”
Bookings for the gardens are open and dates for events will be made once restrictions allow. Find out more about Connaught Gardens here.
