Sidmouth Folk Festival returns on 29th July and runs through to 5th August and if you aren’t excited yet, here is everything we know about this year’s festival so far to get you in the festival spirit!
For the uninitiated, the Sidmouth Folk Festival is a week long celebration of folk music in all its guises alongside the incredible Jurassic Coast. There are activities and performances taking place across Sidmouth, with something for the whole family, a host of recognised stars and emerging talent. As one of the longest running folk festivals in the UK, this is an event not to be missed and if you’re lucky enough to have already secured your tickets, here is what you can expect.
First up, the line up, so far there are a host of fabulous performances planned throughout the week with sets from Fisherman’s Friends and the Sidmouth Mummers among other musicians and dance clubs. You can find the full line up here.
The music will mostly be taking place at The Ham, a seated venue where you can enjoy up to 90 minutes of live music for each set. Outside, there will be a chance to pick up CDs, food and drink and other merch on Ham Lawn. Smaller stages with more intimate performances can be found at various venues across the town, including the Manor Pavilion Theatre and the town parks and gardens. Late night extras can be found at the Bulverton.
One way to fully embrace the festival spirit is joining in with a ceilidh or two. There are several being held as part of this year’s event all ably hosted by leading ceilidh bands from around the country. Other dance displays will be taking place throughout and season tickets will also give you access to a host of workshops including talks and presentations on folk music, the chance to learn dances and singing and a whole host more. You can find more details about this year’s workshops here.
Don’t forget to stop by the children’s festival, especially if you’re bringing the little ones with you. This year, the children’s festival will be held at Peacock Lawns and will include a full week of activities for a range of ages that are suitable for the whole family.
