North Devon cafes and coffee shops have a lot to offer. Sourcing locally where possible and providing meals freshly prepared and home-cooked on the premises, you’re never far away from somewhere to relax and re-fuel.
Devon is renowned for its delicious cream teas and North Devon has some of the best around, there is something very special about sitting in front of a cream tea (jam and cream round the right way of course), while looking out over Exmoor or enjoying a wonderful sea view. If you’re looking for a clotted cream fix, the area has a wide range of tearooms serving elevenses and snacks right through to afternoon tea. While a trip to get afternoon tea might be something for a special occasion, what better excuse is there than just being in North Devon?
The locations of the tearooms, cafes, restaurants, hotels and more that offer a real Devonshire Cream Tea on their menus are as diverse as the delicious cakes and sandwiches on offer. You can eat your cream tea in a vintage setting, beachside or next to the water mill which ground the wholemeal flour used in your lunch! There are even establishments offering vegan and gluten free versions, so everyone can take part in this incredible North Devon delicacy.
It isn’t just the food and drinks that are beautiful in North Devon, so are the settings that you can find them in. Visit one of the many cafes on Exmoor or a tearoom beside a quaint village green, or at one of the many historic properties or right on the beach… The possibilities are endless adding a real sense of adventure to something as simple as just grabbing some light refreshments. Another great thing about the cafes and tea rooms in this part of Devon is that you’re likely to find them just about everywhere you look, including along popular walking and cycling trails and high on cliff tops as well as the more usual locations, like town centres. The beauty of this is that even while traversing the most rural and secluded places in the region, you can still find somewhere to rest your feet and refresh with a cup of warming tea or cooling juice. Many of these establishments are also dog friendly, offering your four legged friends water and treats as part of the service!
The vast majority of cafes and tearooms in North Devon cater for food from early morning to late afternoons and some even later than that opening into the evening. That means you can pop in for a full English – think of that amazing Devon produce first thing in the morning – a quick sandwich at lunch time created with the finest local ingredients or just a slice of cake and a cup of tea. Whatever time you fancy stopping by for refreshments, you’ll find somewhere open and welcoming with an extensive menu. The only real hardship is trying to narrow down what it is you want to eat!
