We love North Devon in the summer, not only can we watch the surfers from the beaches, but we can enjoy the sunshine while exploring Exmoor or grabbing an award winning ice cream… And that’s before we get to the host of activities, attractions and events that are going on throughout the summer holidays!

If you’re planning a trip to the region this summer, here’s some of the activities you can add to your itineraries.

One of our favourite things to do in the summer months is spend some time strolling around the region’s beautiful plants and gardens, so make sure to visit RHS Rosemoor, where there are several additional activities taking place on top of the usual.

Summer Stomp is a family friendly activity with the education team and is running throughout, each one will have a different theme and will include time spent exploring the garden and finding out about the plants and wildlife that grow and live there. Other activities include Woodland Wednesdays, based at the garden’s woodland, or the Great Garden Adventure with Shaun the Sheep. The RHS Garden Rosemoor Flower Show is also taking place this summer, between 16th and 18th August.

Another family friendly option is the Summer of Play at Arlington Court.  Managed by the National Trust, Arlington Court host events all year around and this summer, as well as the Summer of Play, which is free to members and included in the entry fee for non members promises to entertain the whole family. There are also a series of plays and drama workshops taking place, including one involving Henry VIII’s secret diary!

If you like the idea of catching a play or two this summer, Hartland Abbey is the place to be. They are holding several Shakespeare performances over the summer months including The Tempest, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Twelfth Night!

A big tradition across Devon in the summer time are the annual regattas and you can catch Clovelly’s gig regatta and live music in the harbour at the end of August.
