The seasons changing doesn’t mean an end to the fun in North Devon. In fact, did you know you get the best waves at this time of year? If you don’t fancy surfing or indulging in other watersports, there’s still plenty more for you to do.

We’ve compiled a list of some of the places holding extra activities and events for the winter months to help you plan your trip to North Devon this winter.

RHS Rosemoor
Great Torrington EX38 8PH

Set in a beautiful valley, RHS Rosemoor is a haven for anyone who loves nature and being outside. There are over 250 varieties of rose to discover, as well as a host of seasonal landscaping and other winter plants, as well as a full programme of activities for visitors of all ages.

In the evenings, you can experience RHS Glow, a wonderful festive light trail, or visit during the day for the Winter Sculpture Exhibition. If you want to grab some seasonal treats, visit for their Craft and Food Fair, or enjoy a spot of art with one of their water colour, wreath making or willow sculpture workshops. For the whole family, there is the annual Rosemoor Live Christmas Panto, Victorian Carol Concert and Children’s Christmas Party.

RHS members receive free entry to the gardens, though additional charges may apply for some of the events and activities. Find out more here.

The Big Sheep
Bideford, EX39 5AP

Home to Devon’s largest family roller coaster and the world famous sheep racing, The Big Sheep is perfect for anyone aged 8 to 80 and everything in between!

On top of the usual rides and hijinks, there are a couple of things taking place during the winter months including Christmas wreath making, a special Christmas toddler take over, a Christmas market where you can grab all those last minute treats and a magical pop up panto! After the festive season, there is even a New Year’s party for the whole family too!

Some of the events and activities are included in your usual entry fee, but some will have additional costs. Head to their website to find out more here.

Milky Way
Bideford EX39 5RY

As a repeat winner of TripAdvisor’s Best of the Best Award, no trip to North Devon is complete without a visit to the Milky Way Adventure Park. This year, on top of the rides and entertainment, you can also indulge in the Magic of Christmas, where you can visit Santa’s Cottage, explore the woods, meet some elves and ride a festive train.

Many of the familiar shows will also have a little upgrade for Christmas too, just remember to book your slot to see Santa when booking your entry tickets! Find out more here.

Clovelly
Clovelly EX39 5TA

The ancient fishing village of Clovelly was once under the ownership of royalty and is a tourist attraction in its own right. All year visitors flock to see the unchanged cobbled streets, historic harbour and of course, the resident rescue donkeys who act as couriers across the village.

Throughout out the year, you’ll find events taking place and at winter, you can get into the spirit by joining in for the village Christmas light switch on event or if you’re around over the Big Day itself, the annual Clovelly Boxing Day BBQ is also happening this year. Learn more here.

National Trust’s Arlington Court and Carriage Museum
Barnstaple RX31 4LP

As a National Trust property, it’s no surprise that Arlington Court is going all out for Christmas in a way that only stately homes can. Christmas at Arlington Court is a truly spectacular experience. You’ll get to see the house decorated as it would have been during the Victorian era and take part in a Victorian Christmas evening.

If that wasn’t enough, there are festive family trails to enjoy across the grounds and Father Christmas himself might even make an appearance or two. Find out more here.

Affinity Devon
Bideford EX39 3QU

Of course, if you’re heading to North Devon at this time of year, you’ll be keeping your eyes peeled for the perfect gift for your loved ones. There are few places better for grabbing a few items they’ll love without having to break the bank than Affinity Devon Outlet Shopping Centre.

To help you get into the spirit, you can take part in wreath making workshops at the centre, as well as Christmas Markets and Late Night Shopping events. Find out the dates and more here.
