The Planetary Lab has officially opened its pilot science centre in Barnstaple, marking an exciting new chapter for science education, innovation and public engagement in North Devon.
The Planetary Lab is the new working name of Exeter Science Centre (CIO, registered charity number 1194239) and represents an ambitious evolution of the organisation's mission - inspire curiosity, improve scientific understanding, and empower communities to tackle the challenges facing our planet.
Located within Green Lanes Shopping Centre, the pilot centre offers an interactive, hands-on experience for visitors of all ages, with exhibits exploring science, technology, engineering, mathematics and environmental sustainability. The summer pilot will help shape plans for a permanent science centre serving North Devon and the wider South West.
Since opening, the centre has received an enthusiastic response from families, educators and the local community, demonstrating the appetite for accessible science engagement in the region.
Dr Natalie Whitehead, Founder and Director of The Planetary Lab, said:

The Planetary Lab is open throughout the summer on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
