Father’s Day falls on 18th June this year and if you have a father figure in your life, whether they’re a dad, a step dad, uncle, grandfather, older brother or family friend, if they’re there for you throughout the year, show your appreciation with a trip to North Devon.

There are a host of things to do across North Devon, so whatever your dad is into, you’ll find something to suit him here.  With everything from coastal walks, to historic sites to explore, to watersports and golfing breaks, there is never a dull moment.

For those that like spending time with nature, why not take him on a day trip to the Exmoor National Park? With walking trails and the chance to see the famous ponies, herds of wild goats and a host of other bird and wildlife, as well as activities, there is a host of ways you can entertain yourself for the day here.

Or you could visit RHS Garden Rosemoor, with their landscaped gardens, themed activities and workshops taking place all year around, the dads that love their gardens will have a lovely day here. The famous café will also offer a restorative cup of tea and slice of cake.

Did you know that North Devon is home to England’s oldest golf course? We bet your dad did! If he’s a fan of golf, you can book a round or two at some of the most impressive courses in the UK, or even book a golf break where he can spend a few days in luxury with access to the greens whenever he likes.

For the dads that would be interested in the history of the region, Clovelly always a good option. The historic village was once under the ownership of Queen Elizabeth I and remains free to vehicles (though there is a shuttle service for visitors with limited mobility), so you can really enjoy the traditional charm. The harbour and nearby gardens are also well worth a visit, so make sure there is time in your itinerary! Hartland Abbey  s another historic site with beautiful gardens and surrounds. The interiors cover decades of history, from the medieval all the way through to Victorian and it's dog friendly, so you can have a day out with the whole family.

If they’re more active or you want to find something the whole family can get involved with, book a session at the North Devon Wake Park where you can enjoy a host of water sports and watery assault courses within the confines of the site – perfect for anyone who is less confident out on the waves. Alternatively, Skern Lodge has an array of activities the whole family can get involved with, both on land and water that can be adapted for every age and ability.

Of course, if your dad is more confident you could just get out on the waves and take advantage of being at the UK’s first surf reserve. All over the coast there are companies offering tuition and equipment hire, so even if your dad has never surfed before but wants to give it a go, he can! For beginners to the sport, we recommend visiting beaches like Woolacombe, where the surf is more gentle, while those that have a bit more confidence, will love the currents at places like Saunton and Croyde.
