Residents are warmly invited to come and watch spring unfurl at RHS Rosemoor for just £1 on the weekend of 2-3 March. The special discounted tickets are available through advance booking only and all ticket holders will receive their entrance fees back in the form of catering vouchers to use during their visit.

At this time of year, the beautiful gardens in the valley below Great Torrington are literally bursting into life. You can relax on a peaceful lakeside stroll and admire the sunny swathes of daffodils as you go or marvel at the magnolias and smell the subtle scent of wisteria blooms opening.

You might prefer to take in the first burst of blossom in the Cherry Garden and follow the upper Woodland Walk to see an amazing variety of rhododendrons and camellias. Or catch some colour as the spring bulb season starts in the different ‘garden’ rooms – thousands are planted in beds and containers throughout the 65 acre site every year.

Families can enjoy free drop-in craft or planting sessions near the Learning Centre from 10.30 – 1.00 and 2.00- 4.00 or follow a fun leaf-rubbing trail or ‘explorer’ map, letting their imaginations run wild in two dedicated adventure play areas. Or, they can try their hand at den building, visit Mr McGregor’s Garden in the fruit and veg garden, play pooh sticks on the bridges or roll down the sloping lawn of the sprawling Bicentennial Arboretum.

There will also be opportunities to learn about what makes the garden so special, hear about what it takes to care for it and how the RHS team share their love and knowledge of gardening and nature with the communities around them.

Make a day of it and bring a picnic or treat yourselves to a light bite or delicious lunch in the Garden Restaurant, where the menu shines the spotlight on the fresh produce that comes straight from the garden to the kitchen when harvested.
