With the school holidays coming to an end, enjoy what is left of the summer with a romantic get away in North Devon. With the Exmoor National Park, the UK Surf Reserve and a host of picturesque places for a cream tea or two, there are fewer places more suitable for a romantic escape.

North Devon has long been an inspiration to the great romantics – poets like Percy Bysshe Shelly and William Wordsworth wrote some of their greatest works while staying in and around North Devon. Similarly, the romantic epic Lorna Doone by RD Blackmore features huge areas of Exmoor, so there really are few places more suitable for a couple’s getaway.

For somewhere remote where you can indulge in baths under the stars and wood fired hot tubs, as well as luxurious king sized beds, check out Sleepy Owl, a collection of luxury treehouses and retreats designed with romantic breaks in mind. Their Hideout Treehouse  is hidden away among the trees and is perfect for couples to spend time together.

If you like the idea of staying somewhere a little different, Old Pound Smithy might be a good option for you. Their Whittlers Yurt is located in a secluded spot with access to the lake, ideal for romantic picnics. As well as the Yurt, there is a selection of Bell Tents to choose from, all decorated with a Bohemian flair – glamping here is peaceful and with the crafts on offer, there are plenty of ways you can spend time together.

If you’re looking for somewhere with a little more space, there are plenty of self catering options to choose from, including a whole portfolio of cottages from Marsdens Devon Cottages.

For somewhere by the beach so you can enjoy walks along the sand, Croyde Bay Resort is hidden behind the sand dunes on Croyde Beach and has its own private access down to the beach itself. Choose from lodges, cottages or stay in Croyde’s only hotel, all of which are on site and surrounded by a host of facilities, including a jacuzzi, steam room and pool.
From here you can enjoy a short walk into the village itself and with surf tuition and equipment hire available on the doorstep, there’s nothing stopping you getting out on the waves.

If you’re looking for somewhere in the countryside where you can easily reach the coast, should you want to, book a stay with the Mole Resort.   As well as having the hotel within the grand manor house, there are also several private lodges, complete with hot tubs and stunning views of the surrounding scenery. These home from homes are comfortable and provide you with plenty of space, without taking away your privacy.

While having your own space and privacy is a bonus when away for a romantic break, there is something about being waited on and not having to worry about cooking and cleaning. If you would rather go away and be pampered, there are several hotels to choose from including the Barnstaple Hotel, with its onsite facilities and prime location or the Saunton Sands Hotel, which looks over an award winning beach and has relaxing spa facilities, ideal for massages and other couple’s treatments.
