If you’re someone that likes to set New Year’s Resolutions and are looking for something new to achieve in 2022, why not come to North Devon and learn a new skill? As North Devon is the adventure coast, it’s the perfect place to learn a new skill and challenge yourself – intrigued? Take a look at some suggestions for fun skills to learn in the new year below.

Watersports

The North Devon coast is the surfing capital of the UK with the perfect conditions for getting out on the waves. It isn’t just surfing you can find tuition for in North Devon, you can try your hand at paddleboarding, wind surfing, wild swimming, kayaking and more! You’ll find companies offering tuition, guided sessions and equipment hire at all the major beaches in the region. If you don’t want to jump in at the deep end (literally), spend some time at the North Devon Wake Park  where you can give a load of watersports a try including paddleboarding, wakeboarding and more! There are activity packages, giving you the chance to try your hand at everything they offer.

Golf

It isn’t just surfing that North Devon is famous for, the region is also a haven for golfers. You’ll find some of the oldest golf courses in the UK right here in North Devon! Many of the hotels in the area have their own courses and there are notable courses in Ilfracombe, Mortehoe, Umberleigh, Braunton and Saunton.

There are lots of places offering golfing stays, but one place that is great for golfers of all abilities and experience is Highbullen. The hotel has its own 18 hole USGA specification golf course set in wooded parkland with far reaching views across both National Parks. The Golf Club at Highbullen has a full programme of events and competitions running all year around and you don’t have to be a member to get out on the green!

Adventure activities

If you’re someone that can’t pick just one skill and want to achieve as many things as possible in 2022, you need to book a visit to Skern Lodge. The team here have been using the natural landscape for adventure activities since the 70s and offer just about everything you can think of from watersports to climbing to archery to abseiling and a whole host more! Not only that but their activities are suitable for the whole family so you can smash your New Year’s Resolutions while enjoying a fun family holiday!

Of course, that’s not all that’s on offer in North Devon when it comes to experiencing something new – you can spend some time on Lundy Island which also offers adventure breaks and being completely free of electricity offers the chance for a real digital detox – something very few of us manage to achieve these days! Alternatively, there are companies offering the chance to learn how to fly birds of prey, ride a Segway or riding quad bikes around the countryside! Or, like shown above - horse riding!
