North Devon isn’t just the UK’s first surf reserve, it’s also one of the most beautiful places in the UK, full of award winning beaches and stunning scenery – that’s why we think it’s one of the best places to spend Mother’s Day – whether you’re celebrating your mum, a mother figure, an aunt or a big sister – whoever you want to treat on 10th March, here are some of our suggestions for a lovely day out in North Devon.

Book a spa day

North Devon is the perfect place for anyone wanting some rest and relaxation and if the mother figure in your life is anything like ours, they will need some forced relaxation. Across the region are incredible spas which make the most of the stunning scenery to enhance their pamper sessions.

Why not book her a session at the Source Spa at the Saunton Sands Hotel. As the region’s finest coastal spa, set atop the cliffs of the North Devon coast, the Source Spa overlooks the award winning beach, the dunes at Braunton Burrows and is just a stone’s throw from the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Here you’ll find a host of treatments and facilities, perfect for giving them the pampering.

Elsewhere in North Devon, you’ll find spa facilities at the Barnstaple Hotel. Guests have complimentary use of the leisure areas, which includes a gym and the only heated outdoor pool in the region. You’ll also find a soothing relaxation suite and a full range of treatments – non residents are also able to book sessions, so if you find yourself in Barnstaple, make sure to combine your day out with a treatment or two.

Head out for the day

Whether you’re heading out as a family or want to find something that is just for mum, there are plenty of things to do in North Devon which will help you make new memories. You’ll find a range of attractions and activities covering everything from surfing to gentle walks, thrilling theme parks to days out at the zoo – and what’s more, many of them will be running discounts over the Mother’s Day weekend!

Hartland Abbey are opening before their season officially begins for Mother’s Day with their daffodil day. Not only can you enjoy the changing season, with their collection of historic daffodils, many of which have been blooming for over 150 years, but also enjoy a reduced admission price!

Enjoy a cream tea or go out for lunch

We all love a Devonshire cream tea and there are few places more picturesque to enjoy one than here in North Devon. There are cafes, tearooms and hotels offering cream tea, a more indulgent afternoon tea and even twists on an original, including vegan and gluten free versions.

For instance, the Imperial Hotel in Barnstaple is serving an amazing afternoon tea just for Mother’s Day, with a choice of either fine tea or a glass of bubbly! Find out more here

Fancy taking your mum out for lunch rather than a cream tea? You’ll find menus full of local, seasonal ingredients – perfect for a special occasion! The Royal Hotel in Bideford is doing a special carvery for Mother’s Day, you can find details and book here. The team at the Barnstaple Hotel are also offering a Mother’s Day carvery.

Not sure what to choose from? You’ll find both cream teas and a three course lunch on offer at Saunton Sands Hotel Book your choice here. Or you could combine your day out with a meal by taking advantage of RHS Rosemoor’s Mother’s Day menu, which you can view here
