Visitors to RHS Garden Rosemoor can now take advantage of eight newly installed electric vehicle (EV) charging bays, as part of a wider initiative to provide sustainable solutions across all five RHS gardens.
RHS Rosemoor, near Great Torrington in North Devon, now has both fast (up to 22kW) and rapid (up to 50kW) chargers, delivered in partnership with RAW Charging. Fast chargers are ideal for visitors exploring the carefully curated 65-acre gardens, allowing most EVs to recharge in around 4-5 hours. For those on a tighter schedule, the rapid chargers offer a full charge in just 1-2 hours, allowing time for lunch and a browse in the Garden Centre (no admission required). All chargers accept contactless payment and can also be operated via a user-friendly app.
The project is the latest in a range of initiatives taken by RHS Rosemoor to reduce their carbon footprint, having switched to entirely renewable energy suppliers in 2024 and investing in roof installed solar panels in 2025, which have produced 97MWh over the last year saving 28,000 Kilograms of CO₂ emissions. The Rosemoor teams also use 3 electric bicycles and 2 chargeable vehicles to reduce fossil fuel use and are in the process of gradually switching to all electric equipment, where possible. There is even a 30% discount off garden admission for anyone travelling to the garden car free, encouraging green travel.
The gardens work hard at ground level too, composting all garden and food waste on site, using fresh produce harvested from the fruit and veg gardens and sourcing local suppliers wherever possible for their menus. Preference is made for those who are also reducing their own environmental impact such as the dairy supplier who not only run a free-range dairy but also use returnable glass milk bottles.
Then there is the garden itself which champions biodiversity with ‘chop and drop’ composting practices and the active creation of environments to attract wildlife such as beehives, bug hotels, wildlife ponds, bird and bat boxes, wildflower meadows and dead hedges.
In fact, RHS Garden Rosemoor’s commitment to environmental protection has even been recognised by its peers, earning the title of Devon Sustainability Attraction of the Year ‘for sustainable, responsible and ethical delivery’ from Devon’s Top Attractions in their latest awards. Inspectors said ‘Rosemoor demonstrates an exceptional commitment to sustainability across every part of its site.’
In celebration of the new chargers going live, a special launch event is taking place from Tues 18 – Thurs 20 August, offering visitors the opportunity to enjoy free charging during this period. To charge for free, customers must sign up to RAW Rewards via the website: rawcharging.com/rewards. Free charging is only available via the ChargePoint App and not via contactless payment.
