A celebration of autumn with a focus on growing and cooking, featuring live talks and demonstrations, edible garden tours, expert gardening advice, live music and family fun, is planned at the beautiful RHS Garden Rosemoor near Great Torrington.
Europe-wide celebration of pomology and fruit heritage, Europom 3–4 October, brings together regional and national fruit collections, with a special focus on apples and pears, alongside a showcase of other fruits and nuts. Set in the airy Garden Room, visitors can admire displays from 10 different countries and as well as enjoy a programme of expert speakers and guided orchard tours throughout the weekend.
Inspired by the spectacular Europom displays, visitors of all ages are invited to pick up a pencil, slow down and sketch at The Big Draw, running from 7–11 October in the Garden Room. It’s not about artistic ability – it’s about taking time to notice the beauty of autumn, seeing nature through fresh eyes and becoming part of a shared creative experience. Together, hundreds of individual drawings will celebrate the abundance, colour and character of the harvest.
Families can step into a magical world inspired by The Wind in the Willows, where young visitors can run their very own woodland café in the Imaginative Play Café tipi with Theatre Alibi on the Learning Centre Lawn, 3-4 and 10-11 October. Serve imaginary feasts, meet friendly characters, enjoy animal face painting and gather for enchanting storytelling throughout the day - a delightful, drop-in, interactive play experience.
Enjoy a special reading by poet and comedy broadcaster Matt Harvey in the Garden Room at 13:30 on 10 October for the launch of RHS Rosemoor’s new monthly book club, Read more at Rosemoor, in partnership with the Appledore Book Festival and The Bookery. Read more at Rosemoor invites book lovers and garden enthusiasts alike to connect through reading, nature and shared conversation.
A lively hub for talks, demonstrations and tastings can be found in the Small Garden Room Wednesday 7 October – Sunday 11 October where you can meet growers, makers, chefs and producers and discover the stories behind the flavours of autumn.
Over the weekends, 3-4 and 10-11 October, you will also be able to enjoy live music and a tempting collection of tasty treats from pork and apple sausages and vibrant vegetarian and vegan dishes to seasonal ice creams, and sweet treats, created by the garden’s own food and beverage team, curated by Head Chef Jacob, on The Terrace.
You can even pre-book a hands-on workshop during the event – get to grips with Autumn gardening tasks (8 October), be creative at a 3-day Botanical Watercolour workshop (9–11 October), learn how crop rotation can increase your yields (10 October) or make your own willow foraging basket (11 October).
Save the date for Flavours of Autumn, where nature’s bounty takes centre stage.
