Croyde Bay, North Devon – April 1, 2025

In what can only be described as a bizarre sighting, a local cow in Croyde Bay has been captured on video riding the waves like a seasoned surfer. The animal, known as "Bessie the Beach Cow," was spotted on a surfboard this morning, effortlessly gliding across the surf in the company of local surfers.

"I’ve never seen anything like it," said surfer Tom Ward, who witnessed the event. "She was just cruising along, like she’d been doing it for years. I thought I was hallucinating at first, but nope—just a cow, on a surfboard, living her best life."

Bessie, known for her adventurous spirit, has been the subject of local legend for years, frequently found wandering the cliffs and fields near the beach. But no one expected her to take to the water quite so enthusiastically.

Local authorities have issued a statement urging beachgoers to respect Bessie’s space and refrain from overcrowding the surf. "It seems Bessie has found her calling," said Croyde’s beach manager, Hannah Richards. "But we advise caution—she’s got quite the competitive streak."

Surfer or not, the event has raised eyebrows across North Devon, with many now wondering if surfing cows could be the next big trend in the area.

While we certainly hope Bessie enjoys the view, no cows were harmed in the making of this headline.
