There are lots of things to like about North Devon, the easy access to Exmoor, the beautiful countryside and of course, the award winning coastline… this year, why not experience the wonder of North Devon by booking a stay by the coast? Most of the North Devon Coastline falls within the region’s National Landscape and forms part of the UK Surf Reserve, so wherever you choose to stay, you can be sure of some incredible surfing spots and picturesque views.

Here are our suggestions for great places to stay by the North Devon coast.

Holiday Parks by the coast

Back to Top of List

If you’re travelling with your family, holiday parks are a great option – not only do you have a choice of accommodation options, but there are often facilities onsite to keep you entertained. The majority of North Devon’s holiday parks are also close to the coast, with exclusive access to the beaches, like the Beachside Holiday Park right on Westward Ho! Blue Flag Beach. The park slopes down towards the beach, and gives you easy access to the scenic coastal paths and trails.

Another in Westward Ho! is Braddicks Holiday Park, which overlooks the beach and is a stone’s throw from the sand.

Elsewhere, Woolacombe Bay Holiday Park has the award winning Woolacombe Beach on its doorstep, featuring spectacular sea views and a host of things to do right on site. For a site with easy access to the beach and plenty of family friendly entertainment, take a look at Golden Coast Leisure Park. Many of the activities are free and are available whatever the weather, that’s before you take the short journey over to the beach. Woolacombe Beach is a popular one for surfers and at Golden Coast, you can learn the basics before you head out on the waves.

Another popular surfing spot is Croyde Bay, where you’ll find Parkdean Resort’s Ruda Holiday Park. The beach is just outside the site and you can enjoy the range of Parkdean activities and facilities, including several take aways and kid’s clubs.

Self catering by the coast

Back to Top of List

If you’re looking for something more tranquil or are travelling as a couple rather than a family, take a look at some of the region’s self catering options. You’ll find cottages, apartments and some more unique properties available with sea views.

Right on the seafront and one of the most dog friendly destinations is Saunton Beach Villas, a selection of villas that backs onto Braunton Burrows sand dune system in the heart of the North Devon UNESCO designated Biosphere Reserve. It’s a short walk outside your front door to step onto the golden sands and enjoy the beach.

Alternatively, the Beach Cove Coastal Retreat is part of the Darwin Escapes portfolio, featuring quirky beach huts, private hot tubs and amazing views overlooking Hele Bay. Offering a lovely setting for romantic strolls, with outdoor decking so you can admire the views and enjoy easy access to the coast.

Another site with amazing views is Moor and Sea Holidays which overlooks Exmoor, just five minutes from the coast at Lynmouth. These lodges have all be sensitively renovated with their own private outside area and spacious rooms, designed to help you create a memorable break in North Devon.

You can also find a range of coastal cottages and properties with Classic Cottages, who have a range of properties in their portfolio in spots all over the coast, including Westward Ho!, Woolacombe and Combe Martin. Plus, with their huge amount of self catering options, you can easily find a property that suits you for size, space and privacy.

Hotels by the coast

Back to Top of List

Sometimes you just want to sit back, relax and do nothing and if that sounds like you, then you need to look at the hotels on the North Devon coast. Right on the beach is Saunton Sands Hotel. As one of the Brend Collection’s leading hotels, this luxury hotel has a state of the art Source Spa and Wellness centre, as well as a fully equipped dreams, leisure facilities and an award winning restaurant, all right on the sea front.
