If you are looking for a small, rustic, peaceful place in North Devon, Strawfields is the ideal location. This small holding in the beautiful North Devon countryside consists of three cottages, four shepherd’s huts and a small campsite, as well as the farmhouse where the site’s owners live, ready to welcome you to the site.
This fantastic location is hidden away for ultimate tranquillity, whilst also only being minutes from the sea. The award winning beaches of Woolacombe, Saunton, Croyde and Putsborough, are all within easy reach as are the small harbour towns of Ilfracombe, Lynton and Lynmouth which are all popular with visitors to this beautiful area of Devon.
Visitors have the choice of accommodation all of which are comfortable and have a number of facilities to help make a truly memorable holiday.
There are three cottages on site, The Stables, Hayloft and Owl Barn. They both provide a great hideaway for couples wanting something peaceful and secluded and for families wanting to get away from it all and get back to nature.
Hayloft is both cosy and quirky and sleeps up to four, 2 adults and 2 children, while Owl Barn is spacious, sleeping up to 5, with an enclosed garden and a wood burner. The Stables sleeps 4 and is a fabulous new barn conversion, with the original vaulted beams, bespoke kitchen and oak flooring. A sunny patio area leads through a private garden over the stream to the open fields. Guests staying in the cottages get the best of both worlds, they’re private and cosy, yet you have the added bonus of use of the games room, outdoor trampolines and much more. The cottages are a real home from home with unlimited WiFi and TV, plus all the bed linen, bath towels, tea towels and more are provided. All of the cottages have everything you need for the perfect self-catering break, with a well-equipped kitchen complete with fridge, oven, microwave and dishwasher.
There are also four shepherd’s huts on site for a more unusual accommodation choice. These huts offer all the fun of camping, but with the luxury of soft, comfy beds and log burners to keep you warm during the changeable British weather. The huts are all handmade by local carpenters and come in a variety of sizes depending on your needs. The Hut sleeps two and is a great hideaway for couples or solo travellers. If you love camping, but think you might miss your double bed, this is a great option! The Hut is set in a large open field with a stream offering beautiful views across the fields. The Lily Pad is also a good choice for couples, this cosy and unique accommodation is perfect for romantic hideaways and features a lovely veranda to sit and enjoy the views, a private outdoor shower area as well as its own fenced garden area overlooking the pond with only the ducks as neighbours. Alternatively, the Hideout or The Nook are ideal for families, it sleeps 2 adults and 2 children and are in their own peaceful and private corner of the field with its own path leading down to the stream, giving you a little more privacy.
All the huts come with bed linen, log burners and logs and kindling to help keep you warm. There is also a fire pit with a tripod BBQ grill so you can really enjoy the great outdoors. Guests have use of a quirky rustic wooden shower block with hot showers and flushing toilets which are just a short walk from the huts and the camping area.
If you want to really experience the rustic beauty of North Devon, you can camp at the Poppy Patch, the main camping field which has everything you need for a memorable holiday. Each pitch is separated by long grass and apple trees, giving you lots of space to make yourself at home.
Every one of the guests is welcome to explore the surrounding fields, paddle in the streams, toast marshmallows at the fire pit and meet the onsite animals. Those staying in the cottages or huts are also welcome to use the onsite games room and trampolines.
As Strawfields is a smallholding, there are a number of friendly animals onsite that guests are welcome to interact with. Currently there are Shetland Ponies, pigs, pygmy goats, Jacob sheep, cats, chickens, sheep and dogs. Being in the countryside, there are a number of wild animals in the area, including house martins, ducks, herons and barn owls, as well as water voles and various insects.
Well behaved dogs are welcomed onsite from September to May, and must be kept on a lead the whole time onsite. There are great local beaches that are dog friendly for exercising off the lead.
Strawfields is located in the beautiful North Devon countryside close to a range of incredible attractions.
