This scenic circular cycle route starts and finishes at Axminster Railway Station, linking together riverside paths, historic market towns, wetlands, and peaceful East Devon countryside.

Leaving the station, the route quickly joins the traffic-free Stop Line Way, following the Axe Valley south on a former railway line. This flat, easy-going section sets a relaxed tone for the ride as it passes open fields and woodland edges on the way towards Kilmington and Colyton.

Approaching Colyton, the route passes close to the historic town centre and St Andrew’s Church before continuing downstream towards Seaton. The ride then enters Seaton Wetlands, where quiet paths and expansive views across reedbeds and lagoons offer excellent opportunities for wildlife spotting.

From the wetlands, the route continues towards Axmouth, crossing Axmouth Bridge and following the edge of the Axe Estuary. This section provides wide coastal views and a real sense of space, with picnic spots and viewpoints along the way.

Leaving the estuary, the route turns inland onto quiet rural lanes through small villages and rolling countryside within the East Devon National Landscape. Gentle climbs lead back up the valley, offering rewarding views before the loop returns to Axminster and the railway station.

The route is mostly on traffic-free paths and quiet country lanes, with short on-road sections and predominantly paved surfaces. With gentle gradients and plenty of places to stop, it is well suited to leisure cyclists, touring riders, and e-bikes.
