As Christmas draws ever closer, no doubt the smaller people in your life (and some of the bigger ones we’re sure!) will be getting excited about the prospect of a visit from Santa. Luckily, they can experience the magic of meeting Father Christmas as he will be visiting a variety of locations in Devon over the next few weeks!

Firstly, Father Christmas and his helpers will be visiting Agatha Christie’s former home, Greenway on three Saturdays leading up to Christmas. Greenway is managed by the National Trust and so you can expect plenty of Christmas themed walks and events taking place during the festive season, but for full details of the Father Christmas visits, click here.
Another event taking place at Greenway is an event inspired by Agatha Christie’s the Adventure of the Christmas Pudding, find out more here.

Greenway is located near Brixham in the English Riviera, where you’ll find plenty of family friendly things to do together while you’re in the region. Why not spend some time seeing how the animals prepare for Christmas at Paignton Zoo? Or perhaps, you could catch the steam train from Dartmouth Steam Railway to Greenway and add a touch of nostalgia to your trip?

We all know that the National Trust have a fine selection of treats and light snacks available at their sites, but if you want to grab a bite to eat, there are plenty of options in Brixham and the surrounding area. Be sure to take a look at our food and drink page for a full selection of family friendly places.

On the same days, Father Christmas will be working his magic and also appearing at Knightshayes. He will be busy handing out presents in the workshop to all the boys and girls who come to visit him and it’s a great opportunity for the kids to learn more about Christmas traditions of yesteryear as well as sharing stories about what their family Christmas is like.
You can see the full details here.
Knightshayes is located in mid-Devon which is a great place to base yourself if you want to explore the region, you’re in the centre of everything! There are a number of fun activities perfect for the whole family in this part of Devon, including Tiverton Castle, which was at one time, strategically important and was originally built back in 1106! These days, it is a fun attraction for the whole family with a whole host of activities and events going on throughout the year.

Over the weekend of the 7th and 8th December, Father Christmas will be stopping off at Dartington Crystal, no doubt to do a little bit of Christmas shopping himself. He’ll be joined on his visit by some of his friends in his Frozen themed grotto and is set to be a fun, festive day for the whole family! Plus, Dartington Crystal are offering an extra 10% off everything in store, so for parents, that’s two birds with one stone! Find out more about what is happening here.

Taking place across the whole of the Christmas period, is the Christmas event at Pennywell Farm. This event allows the whole family to get caught up in Christmas magic and take part in a Nativity with a difference! On certain dates, you’ll be able to meet Father Christmas and even have breakfast or a cream tea with him! Find out more here.

Pennywell Farm is one of many family friendly attractions that can be found in the region, Buckfast Abbey is nearby just on the outskirts of the Dartmoor National Park, which looks incredible as the seasons change into winter. Alternatively, spend a few hours at South Devon Railway where you can have relive memories of the time of steam trains as well as join in with a host of themed seasonal events.

In North Devon near the popular village of Clovelly is the family theme park, The Milky Way. During the lead up to Christmas, the team will be welcoming Father Christmas between 7th and 23rd December. The man himself and a number of his elves will be in a magical grotto waiting to hear all about your plans for Christmas. Buzzlewick the Elf will also be in attendance manning the Buzzlewick Elf Emporium where the elves will be sorting through all your letters for Father Christmas to take back to the North Pole with him. There are a whole host of fun Christmas themed events taking place at the theme park from ginger bread decorating to making reindeer food! That’s as well as all the usual rides and fun!
