MAKE A CASTLE YOUR HOME.
What could be more romantic than spending a few nights in a historic castle in unspoilt Mid Devon? The main Castle building has three large, comfortable, well equipped, self-catering and self-contained apartments sleeping 2/4.
Guests can choose from a range of accommodation options at Tiverton Castle. For couples on a romantic trip or just an excursion to Devon, take a look at Pear Tree Apartment. This delightful and spacious ground floor apartment sleeps two and is ideal for any couple wanting something a bit special.
Larger groups will want to spend the night in the Upper South Court. This pretty property has wonderful views across the Castle grounds towards St Peter’s Church and the hills beyond. The rooms have exposed beams and sloping ceilings, giving you the impression of having stepped back in time without sacrificing the modern home comforts.
Lower East Court is a perfect family apartment, sleeping four and having a spare cot available. This option is an elegant and spacious property on the first floor of the Victorian wing of the castle and has been furnished to a high degree of comfort.
All of the apartments are approached through a turret door and the first and second floor properties via a magnificent 17th century well staircase.
In addition, in the castle grounds are two beautiful houses, Castle Lodge which sleeps 4 and Castle Barton, which sleeps 6.
Those who have visited the site before will know it’s true when we say that Castle Lodge is the prettiest cottage in the whole of Tiverton. It has charming gothic style windows and is situated within the perimeter walls at Tiverton Castle. Though built in the 1800s, it is a well-equipped and comfortable home, giving you all the nostalgia and joy of an older property, with all the modern amentities that holiday makers of today need. This cottage is close to the town centre and is within easy walking distance of a number of attractions, eateries and shops. It’s the perfect base for families looking for somewhere to call their own during their visit to Tiverton.
For larger families, look no further than Castle Barton, a refurbished farmhouse. Castle Barton abuts the 15th century gatehouse at Tiverton Castle and is within the castle walls, just behind the other house on site, Castle Lodge.
It has been extensively refurbished, though it retains much of its original Victorian charm. This two storey building comes complete with a sitting room including a TV, DVD player and open fire, a dining room, a study, a fully equipped kitchen with a 15c arrow slit window, and a WC all on the ground floor. Head up the stairs to find the bedrooms, all of which have ensuite bedrooms. This property also has a pretty self-contained garden with parking in the drive and a lockable shed where you can store bicycles, barbecues and logs for the fire.
Every one of the properties available at Tiverton Castle has full gas central heating and electricity. The beds come equipped with duvets and guests can make use of the beautiful garden and garden furniture. You are welcome to host a campfire and play a game or two of croquet. The properties also have free Wifi throughout.
Visitors choosing to stay at Tiverton Castle can enjoy free tours of the Castle during their stay, free parking and free seasonal fruit and vegetables from the kitchen garden. (Please note the Castle will be closed for the balance of 2020 due to Covid restrictions)
If you have a fishing licence and want to see what you can glean from the banks of the River Exe, you can set up and do a spot of fishing from the castle grounds. The river runs through the estate and basing yourself at one of the self-catering properties is perfect for those looking for a comfortable fishing holiday.
Unfortunately, the properties at Tiverton Castle can’t accept pets and are no smoking. The preferred changeover booking date is Friday to Friday, please speak to one of the team when making your booking if you need to changeover on a different day.
