Days out in Devon

If you’re looking for a day out, Devon is the ideal destination. With a stunning coastline, picturesque countryside, two national parks and a diverse range of attractions and activities for all interests.

The stunning coastlines, such as the Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage site, are perfect for beach lovers and fossil hunters. Nature enthusiast can explore the rugged beauty of Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks.

Devon hosts vibrant events throughout the summer months, including numerous festivals, like the Sidmouth Folk Festival, Beautiful Days and more.

One traditional event to enjoy while in Devon over the summer is a local regatta. Dartmouth in South Devon and Sidmouth in East Devon both host regattas over the August bank holiday or if you’re in North Devon, don’t forget to check out Clovelly’s Regatta.

Towards the end of summer, you can catch the National Fireworks Championships, hosted every year in Plymouth. Wherever you are in Devon, you’ll find amazing things to do throughout the summer months.

What's On in Devon

Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the beauty of the National Parks, Exmoor and Dartmoor, where families can enjoy everything from hiking, picknicking and adventure activities, like climbing or just exploring the historical sites and stone circles. Both National Parks are home to two distinct breed of ponies, the Dartmoor and Exmoor Pony, as well as birds of prey and feral goats! Or why not jump on your bikes and enjoy one of the region’s many cycle routes, like the Two Moors Way or the Tarka Trail, which is traffic free and suitable for all levels.

For days out at the beach, you’re spoiled for choice. Woolacombe Beach frequently tops lists for best beaches in the county and is known for its golden sands and excellent surf. During the summer months, many of Devon’s beaches have lifeguards on patrol, as well as plenty of amenities, like cafes, shops and of course, places offering equipment rental or tuition for a range of watersports. Perfect if you fancy visiting the UK’s Surf Reserve. 

With charming villages, scenic railways and delicious local cuisine, Devon promises a memorable and enriching experience for a short getaway.
